Message from the CEO

Our philosophy of education is based on our belief that true learning can only happen through the holistic development of the child. Children should have a goal to become creative and be inspired to make something impactful with the resources available to them. At Athena, we recognize that innovation cannot occur without taking risks, therefore we teach our children to be resilient. However, we must not lose sight of our humanity. We need to cultivate the social values of caring, sharing, and having faith in ourselves and others. Education is liberation and we want our children to learn in their own unique ways so that they remain motivated all the time. By embodying our core values, we create the ideal educational environment for the next generation and ensure children are the invaluable assets of the future.

US Common Core State Standards - CCSS

This educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. The California Department of Education helps schools make sure that all students are meeting the standards.

Having the common standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state. Teachers, parents and education experts designed the CCSS to prepare students for success in college and the workplace.

National Curriculum for England - NCFE

The National Curriculum for England aims to provide students with an introduction to the essential knowledge they need to be educated citizens. The curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of students’ knowledge, understanding and skills. Schools are required to follow the statutory national curriculum which sets out, in programmes of study, subject content for core subjects taught to all students.

The National Curriculum of England is used by the vast majority of schools in England. It is a very well-established and recognised curriculum, often characterized by the terms ‘broad and balanced’ as, up to the age of fourteen, students study the full breadth of subjects that are needed to help them develop into well-rounded citizens of the future. The curriculum focuses on delivering high academic standards. It is highly structured, from the Early Years to age 14, with progress measures throughout this time, so teachers and parents know exactly how well a student is achieving, and how well s/he is being taught.
